Cooperation in Political Sphere

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Syrian Arab Republic were established on 26 August 1993.

The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Syria has been functioning since November 1998, the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belarus – since July 2007.

Political dialogue between Belarus and Syria is characterized by a high level of trust and positive dynamics of interstate contacts, congruence of approaches of the Sides to the solution of the majority of international challenges, mutual support in the international organizations.

Before the year 2011, the President of the Republic of Belarus paid two official visits to Syria, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus visited Syria three times. The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, heads of a number of ministries of the Republic of Belarus also paid visits to Syria.

From the Syrian Side, the President, Prime Minister, Chairman of the People’s Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria, heads of a number of Syrian ministries visited the Republic of Belarus.

In March 2012 and May 2013, delegations of the Ministry of Health of Syria visited Belarus. In January 2014, a delegation headed by a Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of Syria paid a visit to Minsk.

In September 2014, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus met with the Vice Premier – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria on the margins of the 69th United Nations General Assembly.

In November 2014, the political consultations at the level of Deputies of Foreign Ministers of the two countries were held in Damascus.

On 8-9 February 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus paid an official visit to Syria. In the course of the visit the meetings with the President, Prime Minister, Vice Premier ‑ Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria were held and the agreements on cooperation in customs affair as well as in prevention and mitigation of emergency situations were signed.

In August 2017, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor of Syria R. al-Qaderi visited Belarus.

In April 2018, Syrian Minister of Presidential Affairs M.Azzam visited Belarus. During the visit, he met with the President of the Republic of Belarus.

In 2016 — 2021 in New York, within the framework of the UN General Assembly sessions, were held the meetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus V.Makei with the Deputy Prime Minister — Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic W. al-Muallem.

On July 20 — 24, 2019, W. al-Muallem the Deputy Prime Minister — Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic paid an official visit to the Republic of Belarus . During the visit, the head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry met with the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

On November 3, 2020 the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Belarus Mohammad al-Umrani presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko.

In January 2022 was held the eighth meeting of the Joint Belarusian-Syrian Commission on trade, economic, and cooperation in Minsk.
